The Norfolk Tides, the Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, recently sported some Spongebob Jerseys during a game as a community service event to raise money for the United Way. These crazy jerseys are apart of the MiLB’s “Jersey Joust” promotion in which minor league teams wear outlandish jerseys, have fans vote on their favorites and then auction them off to fans.
The Spongebob Jerseys helped raise over $8,000 for the United Way. Now that the idea is out there and it clearly works, why shouldn’t your teams do their own version of this? The answer is simple, there is no good reason.
4 Reasons Why You Should Do This At Your Own School
- It’s fun for everyone involved: You can’t look at the Spongebob Jersey and not smile. Try it..not possible.
- It’s for a good cause: The business plan of using fun jerseys to raise money for charity is simple and waiting for you to do it. Print the jerseys, promote it to your fans and sell the jerseys…then write one of those big checks to a charity of your choice.
- It get fans involved: Who wouldn’t want to see their favorite team wearing jerseys you couldn’t even find at a Alabama truck stop. No one, thats who.
- It’s great PR: This should be pretty straight forward.
If you are thinking, “Well, we can’t wear those jersey’s during the season because ….”, just stop right there. Use the jerseys during the big scrimmage before the start of the season. These jerseys would be perfect during for any sport or community service event, not just baseball.
Check out all the different, and I mean DIFFERENT, jerseys teams are wearing here. My personal favorite is the Mr. Rogers Sweater Jersey from the Altoona Curve, although the Spongebob Jerseys are pretty fancy.
